BALONCESTO LEÓN
Our basketball team is called "Baloncesto León", it was created in 1981 making its début in Third division and in only nine years, in the season 90-91, we were in the First division called ACB.
We got to stay for ten years in the most important basketball competition in Spain but in the season 00/01 we lost our place in it. Although in the 2007 we returned to ACB for only one year playing against Real Madrid or F.C Barcelona.
Basketball is one of the most popular sport in León and the "Palacio de los Deportes" our field fills with people everygame. It´s our little coliseum:

This year our team is doing a very good work and we hope to be in ACB for the next year. Here you have a compilation video about our better moments in the history:
I liked learning about the history of basketball at your school and that lots of people come out to watch the games. I play for the basketball team here at MIT. A few corrections I would make to this blog entry are below and I hope to hear more about how the basketball team at your school is doing.
ResponderEliminar"We got to stay for ten years in the most important basketball competition in Spain but in the season 00/01 we lost our place in it" should be written as "We were in the most important basketball competition in Spain for ten years but in the 00/01 season we lost our spot in the competition."
"our field fills with people every game" should be written as "our gym is filled with people every game"
"This year our team is doing a very good work" should be written as "This year our team is doing well"
The article is well written besides the corrections already made. It was really cool to hear about your team over in León. I would be interested to hear about the different leagues in Spain and which of them have sent any players over to the NBA. I never realized the popularity of basketball over in Spain.
ResponderEliminarI also hadn't heard much about basketball in Spain. Besides soccer/futbol, what other sports are popular at this school? I play rugby at MIT, but it's a pretty uncommon sport in the US. What about in Spain?
ResponderEliminarIt's pretty cool that the team moved to first division after its D3 premier. Good luck for this season!
thanks guys for your help!
ResponderEliminarIf we do another blog in English, we´ll try to improve our english writting level.
We have seen some of your blogs and we are impressed with your ability to write in spanish, so well done.
Come to León and visit us!!
=D
I really liked the video you made! Like Carly, I also didn't know that basketball was a very popular sport in Spain.
ResponderEliminarOur school's basketball teams are also very good, however their games are not as widely attended as the games in which your team plays. I guess students here are just too busy to support their basketball team. :(
Wow this is really surprising. I didn't know that basketball was such a popular sport in Spain. Normally, when I think of sports in Spain, I think of soccer (or "fútbol").
ResponderEliminarYour video was really well done :). Thanks for sharing!
The only error I found in your English was when you said "Basketball is one of the most popular sport in León and the "Palacio de los Deportes" our field fills with people everygame." Instead of saying "one of the most popular sport" you should say sports, because it is only one sport out of many sports. Also, "everygame" should be "every game" - but I think that was just a typo.
Keep up the good work!
