This is a very small University (comparing with others in Spain), and here there are very few students. In fact we haven´t got any fraternity but when party time comes, each Faculty organized an “Espicha” for the rest of the students in the University.
Our Espichas are typical parties in León in which organizers earn money so that their studies trip became cheaper. Usually, Espichas are on Thursday evening, but some of them starts in the morning and goes on all day long. It takes place in a tent on the street, maybe in a car park or over the green, green grass.
When the Espicha is over, students go out around the “barrio húmedo”, a neighborhood with a lot of bars and pubs. This is a very famous area in León to have “cortos y tapas” (little drinks and food) to go out every weekend.
We five are students of the Faculty of Education in Vegazana’s Campus, studying to become English teachers. This is a new Faculty, actually it´s the newest in the Campus. It has only two years old. Here we have seven specialties and Psychopedagogy.

Along the day we have a lot of lessons, but, we have also free hours. We spend this time finishing our homework, our projects, going to the library, reading books, studying…but the most of the time we go to the snack bar. We have four here! People use to play cards in the bar, while they take some drink (soft drink…), or they just spend time with friends talking about teachers, partners, espichas…

But party is not the only thing we do here. Sometimes we have to study to pass our exams. Our assessments are in February, June and September. But if we want to have a good summer, we must go to the library as soon as possible, and study hard. During the assessments there are two libraries which are opened 24 hours a day.

Thank you very much, Beth!!!!
It sounds like there are a lot of fun things to do on your campus, and a very exciting social life. I liked hearing about the espichas, because we don't have anything like that here in the United States.
ResponderEliminarOne suggestion that I could make: in the part where you talked about the snack bars, this phrase: "while they take some drink" should say instead "while they have some drinks."
Well written! Your English is very good; a few things in this entry are phrased awkwardly ("degrees available are in the reach of" should be "degrees available are," or "include," or something like that; "along the day" should be "during the day") but overall it's quite well done.
ResponderEliminarThese espichas sound like so much fun. We almost never have outdoor parties, I guess because of the cold and for lack of green space. I wish we did, though, that sounds like a blast.
This post is great, but there were a few grammatical errors, instead of using the word "hours", you should use time. For example, a person has free time not free hours.
ResponderEliminarI really enjoyed this post, especially the interview =) It was really interesting.
ResponderEliminarSome grammatical notes:
In the sentence "Our Espichas are typical parties in León in which organizers earn money so that their studies trip became cheaper," the verb should be changed to "becomes." In the next sentence, "but some of them starts in the morning and goes on all day long," starts should be changed to "start" (the subject is "some," not "them.") You should also rephrase the next sentence: "It takes place in a tent on the street, in a car park, or over the green, green grass."
The sentence "This is a new Faculty, actually it´s the newest in the Campus" doesn't have a verb: I would rephase it, "This is a new Faculty (actually the newest on campus)." The next sentence should be "It is only two years old."
For the sentence: "Along the day we have a lot of lessons, but, we have also free hours," I would rephrase it thusly: "During the day, we have a lot of lessons; however, this doesn't mean we don't have free time." In the sentence "But party is not the only thing we do here," I would change "party" to "partying."
I really enjoyed your post, keep blogging =)

This was a very interesting post. How many hours of class a day is typical for students at your university? It's nice to have a place to go after class to meet your friends/ get some work done. We have something similar--many students spend the evening at the Student Center. This is a building on campus that has a computer lab, a reading room where people can study, several restaurants, a small grocery store, and other things.
ResponderEliminarI never knew the espichas were done to help students raise tuition money. It's a very clever idea. We need to have something like this at MIT.
A small suggestion: "The degrees available are in the reach of" should be "The degrees available are in the categories of."
Also, a more concise way to phrase your first sentence: "The University of Leon is divided into two campuses: a main one in the capital and a smaller one in Ponferrada".
Look forward to reading more entries soon :)
